| Background Suppression with triangulation. Brought to you by ESI, Inc. and Wenglor, this reflex sensor with background suppression emits a light beam. If the light beam strikes the object to be scanned, it is reflected. The angles of incidence and reflection of the object change, depending upon the distance to the object to be scanned, and the reflected light beam strikes the receiver diode (PSD) at a corresponding point. The sensing range is determined with the help of this angle measurement. |

| Depending on the type of sensor, wenglor uses two different functional principles: |
| 1. Electronic Background Suppression A PCD diode is used as a receiving element. An IC, which was developed by wenglor especially for this application, makes it possible to determine the position at which the light beam strikes the PCD. This allows for the recognition of the sensing range of the object to be scanned, for the most part independent of its colour, shape and surface characteristics. |

| 2. Electromechanical Background Suppression A triple diode is used as a receiving element. The position of this triple diode is adjusted mechanically with an external screw, so that the reflected light beam only strikes the receiving diode within the desired working range |
