Background:
The LUT 3 series shares the advantages of the SICK line of Luminescence sensors, Namely leading edge technology and SICK optics history of excellence. Manufacturers in a range of industries have discovered the potential of luminescence sensing since SICK pioneered the field in 1970. Because LUTs detect natural or artificial luminescent materials regardless of surface features, luminescence sensing is more flexible and reliable than traditional photoelectric contrast sensing.
Operating Principle:
LUT Luminescence sensors project invisible modulated ultraviolet light with a 380 nm wavelength toward a luminescent mark or substance. Luminophors convert the ultraviolet light into longer wavelength visible light. Using spectral filtering, the integrated receiver circuitry responds only to emitted visible light matching the original modulated frequency. This is different from standard proximity sensors, since it never receives the light it originally emitted, but instead receives light converted by a fluorescent marking. This makes detection of items with unusual surface features and little contrast possible at variable working distances.
Application:
| The LUT 3 series handles applications in quality control and manufacturing across industries, particularly in the wood, packaging, pharmaceutical, food packaging, and automotive industries. A major bottler recently recently achieved record production by switching from contrast to luminescence sensors on their labeling machines. Typical applications include sensing tamper evident seals, Clear labels, and invisible registration marks on cartons, Lumber, steel and textiles. Also, the LUT 3 series is designed to detect adhesives, coatings, oils, fats and detergents, and can monitor material brightness levels. |
